Vibrant Nation

by Michelle on April 29, 2008

I got an email that Vibrant Nation recently profiled Susan Seiller, late of Jack Fry’s. While Seiller’s profile was interesting (she lists her five favorite Louisville restaurants) it’s Vibrant Nation itself that I’m most interested in.

Described as a site for, by and about accomplished women over 50.”

Essentially it’s a social networking and recommendation site for women over 50.

The site is the brainchild of Louisville lawyer Stephen Reilly and he says it was inspired by watching his 77 year old mother.

Though the site is currently not monetized plans are in the works to implement an advertising driven business model.

Currently, we are not making money, but we hope that will change one day.

Our plan is to sell advertising on the site, but we stress this will not affect any user content. Marketers may also pay Vibrant Nation to organize online panel discussions with members who are interested in participating.

We intend to keep the site free for users, but may establish a “premium” section with special features that would be available to subscribers.

And we’re also exploring the idea of a Vibrant Nation conference series where we bring the marketers to you, giving you a chance to express your views—and learn about industry news and changes—in person.

I really like the idea of a social networking sites built for demographics other than the youthful digerati. That Vibrant Nation is built not only for women but also women over the age of 50 is really interesting to me and I’m anxious to watch the site’s development and growth.

Is any one else in Louisville having T1 (Speakeasy) problems? Mine has been down since around midnight last night and I’m still waiting on Bell South to pay me a visit. Hmmm…I’m thinking that last nights storm had something to do with it. But why only my DS1? Grrr….

Has anyone read The New Yorker article by Malcom Gladwell on the frequency of big ideas? If so, what’d you think?
